International Order Preference

In the "My Bookshelf" area under "Edit Account" you can now universally accept or reject international orders. This is a fix for the problem where users were hit with high shipping costs to send a book overseas.

Featured User: Artkids

From time to time I will feature a user who has registered an extraordinary number of books on the site. This month, that user is ArtKids. With over 40 books registered, I encourage you to check out some of Artkids' books. Who knows, you may have been searching your entire life for "Where's the Duck in Peking? Glimpses of China"

Let's Hear From You

What do you want from WhatsOnMyBookshelf? Would you like it to be more personal with member profile pages (like Myspace), a messaging system, user icons? or would you rather the site to be more like a store (like Amazon) and less like a community? or is there a middle ground you would like to see us shoot for?

In the future we will have to integrate a means of membership to support the site financially, would you be willing to pay a 6 month small membership fee for unlimited book request?

In other words, use this post to rant about anything that bothers you with the site, give us praise, or voice your suggestions.

We want to here from you!!

Simplified Registration

We have received some criticism for our registration page and in response, simplified it. All that is necessary for the site is your Name/Address/Email/Username. This is the bare minimum amount of information that we need from each user so that we can facilitate email notifications and book trade orders.

View Order Bug Fixed

There was a problem with viewing orders in your Order History that has been fixed. Also all orders are now listed by the title of the book rather than by the name of the individual who shipped or requested the book.

When rejecting an order, the ability to add an explanation for the rejection of the order is now in place.

You Own this Site

The key success of any cooperative is shared responsibility. The simple fact is, you, the user, has a stake in the success of this site. Without your books and your dedication to sharing information and reading interests, WhatsOnMyBookshelf will not survive.

Key to our development is publicity. While we can advertise on the internet, we also want to reach average people on the street. Therefore, if you have a favorite local cafe or reading area, just causally drop one of these flyers on a table. Curiosity will take hold and we will be able to attract many new members.

Donate

In order to keep WhatsOnMyBookshelf advertisement free, we are accepting donations. If you donate please send me an email (Dan [at] whatsonmybookshelf.com) with your name/email address that you donated under and we will compile a "Donors Page" that will display any name or link that you desire. Depending on the amount that you donate your information will appear in a corresponding font, with large donors receiving the largest.

Once we launch out of Beta in a month or so this "Donors Page" will be displayed immediately after a user registers with the site.

Thank you for your support.

Zero Point Books

Some books have been registered that received 0 points. We believe that no book is worthless and this bug has been fixed!

Rejected!!

Now you can reject orders. This has been a much needed feature, especially for the customers who have experienced very expensive shipping costs to send books internationally.

When you click this button in your My Orders section of your Bookshelf you will refund the books credits to the requester and they will receive a notification that their request has been rejected. I personally recommend that all users who do not wish to ship internationally also place a message in their comments about the book.

Also, if you are going to use the Reject button then please do so within the first 2 days of receiving the book request as a courtesy to members.

Keep on trading!

Yes, You Must Ship

--After being dugg and featured on CNET we have been extremely busy.

One of the most common questions that I have received is:

"I didn't realize that I had to ship my books right away if they were requested, can I cancel the order?"
The answer is: Every book that you register on WhatsOnMyBookshelf is one which you are willing to ship. According to our Terms Of Use all users are responsible for maintaining an accurate listing of their books. Also, If you no longer own a book then you must delete the book from WhatsOnMyBookshelf.

I greatly appreciate all of the active beta testers and the extremely useful suggestions!

Edit Your Own Description

We now allow users that are not satisfied with the standard book description to edit or write their own description.

As always, feel free to give us any suggestions via the "Contact Us" link.

Coming Features:
--A user feedback system for rating transactions.

International Users

We welcome users from around the globe but also realize that the majority of our members live within the United States. In fairness to everyone, we have added a notification to books that will ship from outside the United States since they may take as long as 6 weeks via ground mail.

Bug Fixes

The bug that prevented some users from deleting books has been fixed.

Also, there was a simple problem with people adding titles with apostrophes that has been corrected.
